On their return leg from Canberra, the Red Knights Motorcycle Club stopped in at Bairnsdale for a pit stop and catch up with CFA D11.
On Friday 16 September 2011, Victorian members of “Australia 1” – Red Knights Australia Motorcycle Club left Melbourne for Canberra
The ride was part of the ‘Wall to Wall RIde’ to support the National Police Remembrance Service. The Victorian leg started at the Police Remembrance wall in St. Kilda Rd. Sixteen Riders and a support crew did the trip over a four-day period.
Day 1 – Melbourne to Beechworth
Day 2 – Beechworth to Canberra
Day 3 – Canberra to Mallacoota
Day 4 – Mallacoota to Melbourne
The riders in the Victorian contingent came from a variety of areas includng Seymour, Craigieburn, Wendoree, Wallan, Sale, Kingston, Werribee, Lara and Broadmeadows.
Australia 1 Secretary and Craigieburn CFA Secretary, Joe Giarrusso said: “Some of the riders would total over 1,900km as part of the trip. We received a police escort from Albury to Canberra, just a sign that the Police respected us for what we were doing to honour their fallen.”
Every state and territory was represented in Canberra on the Saturday with over 1,300 riders in place. Planning is underway for next year’s ride, along with some talk about a firefighters’ wall to wall ride.
